privacy policy
What we collect, what we never collect, how long we keep it, and how to make us delete it.
Last updated: September 11, 2026
1. Who we are, and what this covers
Glass Umbrella (“we”, “us”, “our”) builds The Smithy. This policy covers The Smithy Reader for iOS, the Grit game, and this website, savethefae.com — together, “the Service”.
2. Who can use The Smithy Reader
The Smithy Reader is for ages 13 and up. To use it you confirm that you are 13 or older. Children under 13 do not get their own Reader account; younger players reach the world of Grit through an account a parent or guardian creates and manages, which is covered in section 9.
3. What we collect
- Account information — your email address, a display name, and either a password (stored hashed, never in plain text) or the identifier your sign-in provider gives us when you use Apple, Google, TikTok, Discord, or GitLab.
- Reading and learning progress — which stories you have read and which skills you have been practicing.
- Wisp conversations — what you type to Wisp and what Wisp replies. See section 4.
- Purchase records — what you bought and when. Not your card number; see section 6.
- App and device basics — app version, operating-system version, and session identifiers, so we can reproduce a bug you report.
- Website analytics — aggregate visit statistics on savethefae.com.
4. Wisp, and the AI behind it
Wisp answers in the app by sending your message, and the recent conversation it belongs to, to Anthropic, whose Claude models generate the reply. Anthropic is the only AI provider that ever receives Wisp conversation content.
Wisp conversations are kept for 90 days and then deleted. We do not sell them, we do not use them to train any model of our own, and we never use them to target advertising — there is no advertising in the Service at all.
5. What we never do
- We do not show ads, anywhere in the Service.
- We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information.
- We do not embed advertising or behavioural-tracking SDKs in the app.
- We do not collect your location, your contacts, your photo library, or your microphone.
6. Payments
Purchases and subscriptions made inside the iOS app are processed by Apple through the App Store. Purchases made on this website are processed by Stripe. In both cases we receive a confirmation that a purchase happened — we never receive or store your card number.
7. Who else handles your data
We share data only with the providers that make the Service work, and only what they need:
- Anthropic — Wisp replies (section 4).
- Apple — in-app purchases and subscriptions.
- Stripe — payments made on the website.
- ElevenLabs — text-to-speech narration.
- Amazon Web Services — hosting and storage.
- Matomo — website analytics, which we run ourselves at analytics.glassumbrella.io.
We also disclose information when the law requires it, or where it is necessary to protect someone's safety.
8. How long we keep things
- Wisp conversations: 90 days, then deleted.
- Account and progress data: while your account is active.
- Purchase records: as long as tax and accounting law requires us to keep them.
You can ask us to delete your account and everything attached to it at any time — write to [email protected]. See our support page for what to include.
9. Children
Grit is played by children, and we comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). A child under 13 plays through a parent-managed account: the parent gives consent, chooses which features are available, and can review, correct, or delete their child's information at any time. Children's gameplay data is anonymised before it is used for analytics, and social features are off unless a parent turns them on. The safety & privacy page explains the parent controls in plain language.
10. How we protect it
- Encrypted connections (TLS) for everything in transit.
- Passwords stored hashed, never in plain text.
- Anonymised child identifiers, so gameplay analytics carry no personal information.
- Role-based access controls limiting which staff can reach what.
11. Your rights
Wherever you live, you can ask us to:
- tell you what personal information we hold about you (and about your child);
- correct anything that is wrong;
- delete your account and the data attached to it;
- withdraw consent for any collection that depends on it.
One email does all of these: [email protected].
12. Contacting the trader (EU, EEA, and the UK)
The trader responsible for The Smithy Reader, and the details to use for data-protection requests from the EU, EEA, or the UK:
| Trader | Glass Umbrella, Inc. |
|---|---|
| Jurisdiction | Commonwealth of Virginia, United States |
| [email protected] |
We publish only the details we can confirm, so the following are supplied on request rather than printed here: registered address, telephone. Write to [email protected] and we will send them.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. The date at the top changes in the same edit as the words do, and we email registered users about material changes.
14. Contact us
Privacy questions, data requests, and COPPA enquiries: [email protected]. Anything else: [email protected].
